Before you meet
- Take your time. Get to know each other through your parents and your private page before meeting.
- Video chat first if you can. It's an easy way to make sure someone is who they say they are.
- Never send money, gift cards, or financial information to anyone, no matter the story.
- Keep personal details like your home address and workplace private until you trust someone.
When you meet
- Meet in a busy public place, like a coffee shop or restaurant, for the first few dates.
- Tell a friend or family member where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you'll be back.
- Get yourself there and back. Have your own way home.
- Keep your phone charged and stay aware of your drinks and belongings.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, it's always OK to leave.
If something goes wrong
- If you're ever in danger, call 911.
- Report anyone who makes you uncomfortable, pressures you, asks for money, or seems to be under 18. Reports are confidential.
- Young adults can pause or remove their profile anytime from their private page.
