1. Agreement
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and Polka Dots n Stripes LLC ("we," "us"). By creating an account, approving a profile, or otherwise using Polka Dots n Stripes, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Community Guidelines. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
2. Who can use Polka Dots n Stripes
- Parents: you must be at least 18, and the parent, legal guardian, or a close family member of the young adult whose profile you create.
- Young adults: the person on a profile must be at least 18 and must personally approve their profile before it is shown to anyone.
- You may only create a profile for someone with their knowledge, and you may not create a profile for anyone under 18.
- You may not use the app if you have been removed from it before, or if you are not allowed to use it under the law.
3. How it works
Parents build profiles and browse other families. A profile stays hidden until the young adult approves it. When two families both Dot each other, it's a match and the parents can message. Young adults see their matches on their private page and decide who they'd like to meet. Parents find. The young adult decides.
4. Your account and verification
- Keep your information accurate and your login private. You're responsible for activity on your account.
- Use one account per person, in your own name.
- We ask parents to verify with a selfie (and optionally an ID). We may approve or reject a verification at our discretion, and some features stay locked until you're verified.
- Young adults' private links are personal. Please don't forward them.
5. Your content
You're responsible for the photos and words you add. Only post content you have the right to share, that is true and current, and that your young adult has agreed to. You keep ownership of your content, and you give us a limited permission to store and display it inside the app to provide the service. You can remove it by editing or deleting the profile or your account.
6. The young adult is always in control
A young adult can decline their profile, change who they're interested in, set private dealbreakers, choose what to share with a match, pause or remove their profile, and delete all their data at any time. Parents agree not to pressure a young adult to approve a profile, accept a match, or meet anyone.
7. Things you may not do
- Harass, threaten, bully, or demean anyone, or post hate speech or sexual content.
- Create fake profiles, impersonate someone, or misstate anyone's age or identity.
- Create a profile for someone without their knowledge, or for anyone under 18.
- Ask for money, run scams, advertise, or use the app for any business purpose.
- Share anyone's private information, contact details, or screenshots without their permission.
- Try to get around our verification, consent, or safety features, collect data from the app, or interfere with how it works.
8. Safety
We verify parents, require young adults to approve their own profiles, and review every report. But we do not run criminal background checks, and we can't guarantee how anyone will behave. You are responsible for your own interactions. Please follow our Safety Tips: meet in public places, tell someone your plans, and never send money. Report anything that feels wrong.
9. Text messages
When you enter a phone number, we text you a one-time verification code. Young adults who check the optional "Text me about my matches and updates" box also agree to receive texts about their profile, matches, and account. Consent to texts is not required to use Polka Dots n Stripes. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
10. Paid features
The core app is free. If we offer paid features (such as Premium or Family Premium), they'll be billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, follow those stores' payment, renewal, and refund rules, and renew automatically until you cancel in your store account settings. Rewards like Golden Dots, invite rewards, and Founding Family badges are promotional, have no cash value, and may change.
11. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings, and a young adult can delete all their data from their private page. We may suspend, hide, or remove accounts or profiles that break these Terms or our Community Guidelines, or that put others at risk.
12. Disclaimers
Polka Dots n Stripes is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't promise matches, dates, relationships, or that the app will always be available or error-free, and we aren't responsible for what users say or do, on or off the app.
13. Limit on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for anything that happens between users on or off the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or $100.
14. Your responsibility to us
If you break these Terms or the law and someone makes a claim against us because of it, you agree to cover the reasonable costs, including legal fees, that result.
15. Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah. Before filing any claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it. Any lawsuit must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Utah, except that either side may use small claims court.
16. Changes
We may update these Terms. If we make important changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email. Continuing to use the app after changes take effect means you accept them.
